Fertilizers increase the fertility of soil by supplying Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium and other nutrients. These are used to ensure good vegetative growth giving rise to healthy Plants.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h5><strong>TYPES OF FERTILIZERS<\/strong><\/h5>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Fertilizers are of following types:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1- NITROGENOUS FERTILIZERS- <\/strong>These are obtained from Ammonia and its derivatives. e.g., <strong>Ammonium sulphate, Calcium ammonium nitrate, basic calcium nitrate, calcium cynamide(nitrolim), urea<\/strong>, etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Ammonium sulphate<\/em> [(NH<sub>4<\/sub>)<sub>2<\/sub>SO<sub>4<\/sub>]<\/strong> contains 25% ammonia which is transformed into the nitrate by denitrifying bacteria present in the alkaline soil. the nitrates are easily absorbed by crop plants.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong><em>calcium ammonium nitrate<\/em> [Ca(NO<sub>3<\/sub>)<sub>2<\/sub>NH<sub>4<\/sub>NO<sub>3<\/sub>]<\/strong>, the amount of nitrogen is about 20% which is directly absorbed by plants. Because of its higher solubility, it has no adverse effect on the soil.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Urea<\/em> (NH<sub>2<\/sub>CONH<sub>2<\/sub>) <\/strong>contains nearly 46% nitrogen and it does not affect the pH of soil. It is the extensively used nitrogenous fertilizer.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-311\" src=\"https:\/\/sharedlearning.in\/dailyprep\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/fer-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"520\" srcset=\"https:\/\/old.sharedlearning.in\/dailyprep\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/fer-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/old.sharedlearning.in\/dailyprep\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/fer-1-300x152.jpg 300w, https:\/\/old.sharedlearning.in\/dailyprep\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/fer-1-768x390.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>2- PHOSPHATIC FERTILIZERS- <\/strong>These are <strong>superphosphate of lime, triple superphosphate(obtained from bone ash) and Thomas slag or Phosphatic slag<\/strong>. Potassium chloride, potassium nitrate and potassium sulphate, etc are also included in this category. Superphosphate of lime is a mixture of calcium dihydrogen phosphate and gypsum. In this fertilizer, 16-20% <strong>P<sub>2<\/sub>O<sub>5<\/sub><\/strong> exists. <strong>Thomas slag<\/strong> contains 14-18% of P<sub>2<\/sub>O<sub>5<\/sub>. It is a by-product of steel industry because of its higher solubility, it is easily assimilated by plants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3- NP FERTILIZERS- Dihydrogen ammoniated phosphate<\/strong> is an example of NP fertilizer because it supplies nitrogen and phosphorus to the soil.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4- NPK FERTILIZER- <\/strong>They supply nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium to the soil. They are also known as <strong>Mixed fertilizers<\/strong>. Urea is prepared by heating carbon dioxide with ammonia at 125-150 <sup>0<\/sup>C and 8.5 atmospheric pressure. This fertilizer is never bought in direct contact of\u00a0 seed. After using the fertilizer\u00a0 water is supplied 3-4 days later.<\/p>\n<p>CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0 +\u00a0 NH<sub>3\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/sub>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;&gt;\u00a0 NH<sub>2<\/sub>CONH<sub>2\u00a0 <\/sub>(Urea)<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h4><strong>EXPLOSIVES<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>These are the substances which on combustion produce extreme heat and energy with a strong cracking sound. They consists of pure compound like TNT or a mixture of fuel and an oxidiser. Explosives can be classified as primary explosives, secondary explosives and tertiary explosives. H<sub>2<\/sub>SO<sub>4<\/sub> and conc. HNO<sub>3<\/sub> in glycerine. So, it is an ester. H<sub>2<\/sub>SO<sub>4<\/sub> and conc. HNO<sub>3<\/sub>). It is frequently used as explosive.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT EXPLOSIVE (RDX) C<sub>3<\/sub>H<sub>6<\/sub>N<sub>6<\/sub>O<sub>6<\/sub><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-304 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/sharedlearning.in\/dailyprep\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/hexogen.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Chemically it is cyclo-trimethylene trinitramine. It is also known as <strong>Cyclonite in USA, Hexogen in Germany and T4 in Italy<\/strong>. It was invented by <strong>Henning<\/strong> in <strong>1899<\/strong>. It is also called <strong>plastic exploser<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It is a very powerful explosive and can be used pure or in plastic explosives. When plastic substances like Polybutenic acrylic acid is added to RDX, it is called <strong>Plastic Bonded Explosive (PBE)<\/strong>. The explosion energy in normal RDX is nearly 1510 Kcal. It consists of three parts nitroglycerin, one part diatomaceous earth (Kieseiguhr) and a small mixture of sodium carbonate. It is used in blast purposes inn mines.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>POINTS TO REMEMBER<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Gun Powder is a mixture of <strong>nitrate, sulphur and charcoal<\/strong>.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>At present, in making dynamite in place of nitroglycerine, sodium nitrate or ammonium nitrate and wood pulp are used.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Calcium nitrate, a nitrogenous fertilizer is also called <strong>Norwegian Saltpeter<\/strong>.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Nitrolim<\/strong> is a mixture of <strong>Ca(CN)<sub>2 <\/sub>and carbon<\/strong>.
