Biogenetic nutrients or biogeochemicals are essential elements required by the organism for their body building and metabolism.<\/p>\n<p>The Biogeochemical cycles are classified into two main types<\/p>\n<h5><strong>1<\/strong>&#8211; <strong>Gaseous cycle<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li><em>Carbon cycle<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Nitrogen cycle\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Oxygen cycle<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Water cycle (Hydrological cycle)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5><strong>2<\/strong>&#8211; <strong>Sedimentary cycle<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li><em>Sulphur cycle<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Phosphorus cycle<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<blockquote>\n<h4><strong>NITROGEN CYCLE<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-235\" src=\"https:\/\/sharedlearning.in\/dailyprep\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/n-cycle.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"475\" height=\"370\" srcset=\"https:\/\/old.sharedlearning.in\/dailyprep\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/n-cycle.jpg 475w, https:\/\/old.sharedlearning.in\/dailyprep\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/n-cycle-300x234.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 475px) 100vw, 475px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It is a biogeochemical process which transforms the inert Nitrogen present in the atmosphere to a more usable form of living organisms. The Nitrogen gas exists in both organic and inorganic forms. Organic Nitrogen exists in living organisms, and they get passed through the food chain by the consumption of other living organisms. Inorganic form of nitrogen are found in abundance in the atmosphere. This Nitrogen is made available to plants by symbiotic bacteria which can convert the inert nitrogen into a usable form- such as Nitrites and Nitrates.<\/p>\n<p>Process of Nitrogen cycle consists of the following steps- <em>Nitrogen fixation, Nitrification, Assimilation, Ammonification, and Denitrification.<\/em> These processes take place in several stages and are explained below:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>NITROGEN FIXATION<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It is the initial step of Nitrogen cycle. Here, atmospheric Nitrogen(N<sub>2<\/sub>) is converted into Ammonia(NH<sub>3<\/sub>). During the process of Nitrogen fixation, N<sub>2 <\/sub>is deposited into soils from the atmosphere and surface waters. Later, the Nitrogen undergoes a set of changes, in which two Nitrogen atoms get separated and combines with Hydrogen to form Ammonia(NH<sub>4<\/sub><sup>+<\/sup>).<\/p>\n<p>The entire process of Nitrogen fixation is completed by symbiotic bacteria which are known as Diazotrops. Azotobacter and Rhizobium also have a major role in this process. These bacteria consists of a Nitrogenase enzyme which has the capability to combine gaseous Nitrogen with Hydrogen to form Ammonia.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>NITRIFICATION<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-244\" src=\"https:\/\/sharedlearning.in\/dailyprep\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/8341564245_83f5eb6891_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"456\" srcset=\"https:\/\/old.sharedlearning.in\/dailyprep\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/8341564245_83f5eb6891_z.jpg 600w, https:\/\/old.sharedlearning.in\/dailyprep\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/8341564245_83f5eb6891_z-300x228.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In this process, the Ammonia is converted into Nitrate by the presence of bacteria in the soil. Nitrites are formed by the oxidation of Ammonia with the help of Nitrosomonas bacterium species. Later, the produced Nitrites are converted into Nitrates by Nitrobacter.<\/p>\n<p>The reaction involved in the process of Nitrification is as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong>2NH<sub>4<\/sub><sup>+ <\/sup>+ 3O<sub>2 <\/sub>&#8212;&#8212; 2NO<sub>2<\/sub><sup>&#8211; <\/sup>+ 4H<sup>&#8211; <\/sup><\/strong>+<strong> 2H<sub>2<\/sub>O<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2NO<sub>2<\/sub><sup>&#8211; <\/sup>\u00a0+ O<sub>2<\/sub> &#8212;&#8212; 2NO<sub>3<\/sub><sup>&#8211;<\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>ASSIMILATION<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Plants take in the Nitrogen compounds from the soil with the help of their roots, which are available in the form of Ammonia, Nitrite ions, Nitrate ions or Ammonium ions and are used in the formation of the plant and animal proteins. This way, it enters the food web where the primary consumers eat the plants.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>AMMONIFICATION<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When plants or animals die, the Nitrogen present in the organic matter is released back into the soil. The decomposers namely bacteria or fungi present in the soil, converts the organic matter back into Ammonium. This process occurs in the absence of Oxygen. The water constantly circulates through evaporation, condensation and precipitation and the nutrients dissolved in water also circulates within it. The process of sulphur availibility is same as the process of nitrogen availibility. Most of the sulphur present in soil is in the form of organic matter.
